Low Light Classes
You know how to run your gun
during daylight hours, now put your skills to the test during low light. In
this class shooters will learn various low light shooting techniques for the
pistol. Each shooter will be drilled in all aspects of weapons handling
and defensive shooting with emphasis on proper technique and real world
application. Students will engage targets out to 15 yards (Basic) and 25 yards (Intermediate & Advanced) during low light
conditions and test their skill with drills and realistic decision-based
We conduct our Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced low light
classes at Cedar Ridge Range. To ensure an acceptable instructor to student
ratio, we have a limit of 10 students per class. You must attend at least one
basic class to attend intermediate, and at least one intermediate to attend the
advanced class. Each class builds upon the previous classes; however, each is
different as well.
In the Basic class, we review
pistol manipulation and how to do this manipulation with a flashlight. We then cover basic low light shooting
techniques and practice the techniques in daylight. Once night falls we
practice the techniques in low light conditions and conduct a qualification.
In the Intermediate and
Advanced classes, we introduce new techniques and material appropriate for that
skill level, practice the techniques in daylight and again in low light
conditions. We then complete a
qualification and run decision-based scenarios.
The class sessions will run
from 3:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. each day with the last shot fired at 9:00 p.m.
For law enforcement
officers, these classes are eligible for TCOLE continuing education credit and we will provide
the required documentation. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office provided TCOLE continuing education for
its deputies the 2 last years.
For students who have
completed a class, we schedule occasional 4-hour low light practice sessions.
