Next MAG 20 Live Fire will be in the Fall 2020 and MAG 20 & 40 Classes will be in the Spring (March or April) 2021
MAG 20 Range/Live Fire:
A two day, 20 hour immersion course in the use of the
defensive handgun under extreme stress. Draw from concealment, two-handed
stances, shooting from cover, one-handed stances with either hand, speed
reloading, and more are taught with an overall emphasis on fast, accurate shot
placement. The course will culminate with a police-style qualification course.
Estimated ammo count: 500 rounds. Prerequisite: basic understanding of firearms
safety and proof of a clean criminal record.
The MAG-20 Live Fire incorporates martial arts principles
into the art of pistol marksmanship and reflects Massad Ayoob’s 35+ years of
training law enforcement officers and legally-armed private citizens. It
employs the concepts of the fighting stance, applying force, and seeking
balance and departs greatly from target shooting principles in gripping the
pistol, body position, and head position. Using these concepts you will find
recoil recovery improved with the pistol snapping back to sights on target with
every shot. MAG-20 teaches the student to position their body in a manner that
mimics the human body's reflexive crouch. So rather than fighting the body’s
protective instincts the shooter works with them.
In MAG-20 Live Fire students learn the classic Weaver,
Chapman's modified Weaver, and a modified Isosceles. Students are often very
skeptical of the modified Isosceles only to discover their target telling them
that it is working. Students learn one-handed shooting, both strong side and
weak side. Massad’s approach uses the principal of the body’s sympathetic
muscle movement to obtain the maximum grip from the shooting hand. Students
also learn shooting from low cover positions including the cover crouch, the
high kneeling and the low kneeling.
We finish the MAG-20 Live Fire with a police-style
qualification that incorporates all of the techniques we learn throughout the
course.
MAG 20 Classroom: The Armed Citizens Rules of Engagement
The Armed Citizens Rules of Engagement is a two-day, 20-hour
immersion course in rules of engagement for armed law-abiding private citizens,
emphasizing legal issues, tactical issues, and aftermath management. Topics
will include interacting with suspects, witnesses, responding police officers,
threat recognition and mind-set, management of social and psychological
aftermath after having had to use lethal force in defense of self or others,
and preparing beforehand for legal repercussions and minimizing exposure to
them. Massad's instruction covers situations in the home, at the place of
business, or on the street.
